I received an email from serv@sbcglobal.net on a worm in my emails going out. it had attachment. Please help?

The email from serv@sbcglobal.net had explained that they show emails leaving my machine have worms attached. Along with their email, there was an attachment, Update-KB8598-x86.exe. But I chose not to open it before I asked someone. The email from serv@sbcglobal.net did go into my spam folder when it arrived. If anyone can help me with this, I would appreciate it.

Well, stop posting your email addres to the internet like you did in the question!!! It makes it very easy for spammers to harvest.





Set up a filter in your email service that sends spam to a junk/bulk folder so you don't have to see it. Most email software allows you set either set filters or block address/senders.

Sorry, it is just part of the glitch in Yahoo!'s new format.


Server Farm incompatibility is usually the problem.


Thousands are having many different problems with their e-mail.


This applies to almost all areas of mail (including signing in, composing, receiving, sending, attachments, photos, etc.), original and beta mail, messenger and search problems. Yahoo! is wrapping up a few remaining compatibility issues between Yahoo! Mail Beta (beta testing lasts for at least 6 months!!!) and the new Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.


1. You will have less problems with original mail if you sign in via Messenger! Go to preferences, general, then check box: Automatically sign me in when I click a Yahoo! link in Messenger.


2. Or if you don't have Yahoo Messenger:


Beta wouldn't let me in so I went to beta help and it said to click on my toolbar mail icon. So I did and it worked!


3. Or if you don't have beta mail:


http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/ can be used to sign into Yahoo!, then put yahoo back into the address bar and hit go. It will take you back to Yahoo! and you can open mail normally. Otherwise, you can open mail in wap, but it is blind. I had to go through wap each time I logged in.

So, it seems we have to stop using these two programs (if you installed them) or try to work around them until they finish wrapping things up. Your IE6 is still installed, so you just have to go to: Start, settings/control panel, add/remove programs and delete IE7. For Beta mail you only have to use the switch back option located in your mail inbox.Also, where you sign in by clicking on: Are you having trouble?.

You can get this error if you select SSL and SBC does not use it for authentication.





SBC should have a setup section on their web page. It will include things like if you need to use SSL, or more likely if you just have to authenticate for POP and SMTP. If they use special ports (not 25 and 110) they should be listed there.

Like the other user suggested you need to change the settings in outlook. The pop connection should be pop.att.yahoo.com and the smtp connection should be smtp.att.yahoo.com. You can change these by going to outlook express going to tools and then to accounts. If you need more help than that you can always call tech support for them to walk you thru setting this up. I am one of the techs at a call center for AT%26amp;T and do this quite often.

If you are using the free yahoo email account, you won't be able to use your old mail client.





You can only send and receive messages online using web mail.

What mail program are you using? That will help tremendously. There are somethings that happen that generate codes such as 999 are a mystery to teh machine and it shows you the best that it could come up with. I looked at this page (http://modemhelp.net/errorsindex.shtml) and could not find a 999 error.





Generally the techs will have you start from the beginning to rebuild the connection and the account (rebuild the connection is for Dial up.)

Tell him to check his blocked list---you may have been accidentally blocked.

Reply:Have him make sure his SPAM filter isn't blocking your messages or sending them to a SPAM folder. If that's not the cause then make accounts on other web based free email servers and try messaging him from each of them until you find one that gets through.

When you post on random places on the web your email gets taken by malcious bots that mindlessly spam advertisements. by not posing your email on sites, you wont get spam.

Having done the same thing myself (SBC DSL not available where I am currently living), I can tell you that when your SBC account is canceled, Yahoo will give you a limited opportunity to convert your SBC account to a free Yahoo account. Works seamlessly, just don't get all the perks as it is a free account. Hope this helps!

Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Java script to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. It's causing attachments to not show, 999 errors where it won't let you do a particular action and some people cannot send receive delete or move mail. It's not just Vista either it's happening to some of us on XP. No not with free Yahoo mail. You would have to have a paid mail service to receive receipts. Then the receiving party would need to have the same capabilities.

It is the same thing. The only difference is the sbcglobal.net.





Yahoo has been making many changes in the email system. This seems to be causing many problems with emails being bounced or returned by Mailer Daemon because the address cannot be found. Tell all your friends and contacts to delete your email address from their Address Book or Contact List and reinstall it. You should do the same with their email addresses in your Address book.





I have had this same problem with emails I sent to friend with Yahoo or sbcglobal email addresses. I did the above and the email have been delivered since then. I told them to do the same and I get their email now.





If the above doesn't work then go to one of the Feedback site and tell Yahoo Mail of the problem. The first is for email programs in general and the second for the Beta mail problems.

Well, it's not from SBCglobal.net, an SBC employee wouldn't be using and provider like @rogers.com for work, it is probably a hoax. Clicking the link might take you somewhere that will upload a virus or something.

Hover over the link to see where it's directing you to. If you see an IP address (such as http://209.885.171.100) or an address that is not your ISP it's definitely spam.


You can always contact your ISP directly to ask about it.

There is no way that SBCGLOBAL would send you an email from a rogers.com email address. It is unlikely that they would send you an email from an sbcglobal account either. ATT.COM maybe...

They've also tried to email to subscribe but of course were told the group was private and that they needed an invitation.
